Snapping at the heels of the current Top 50 firms are smaller but enthusiastic companies that could make it into future charts. Eclectic Learning Services in at number 3 in IT Training's Top 50 Rising Stars.
Eclectic Learning Services was set up in July 2000, following the management buyout of Xansa's Scottish training operation.
The new firm was immediately successful. As the only approved Oracle trainer in Scotland, it had a unique offering for those customers not wanting to travel further afield.
Expansion of the training portfolio had adhered to this winning strategy, and Eclectic now has a monopoly position in the Scottish market as the sole authorised trainer for Sun, Business Objects, Red Hat and Sybase, as well as Oracle.
Eclectic now employs 34 staff, and revenues in 2003 showed a healthy 30 per cent uplift on the previous year.
However, it would be wrong to put this success story down to the supplier's unique position in its chosen markets alone. Rapid response to customer requests and quality delivery are also key goals.
"We've had many comments about how quick we are in getting back to customers, no matter how complex the enquiry," says Colin West, director.
Eclectic also works hard to ensure that training meets customer needs by tailoring courses. "For example, we can take an organisation's day-to-day data and insert it into courses, so they have a familiar learning environment, "says West. "That's a big winner for a lot of the larger rollouts."
